Ms. Dianne Andrews- author, speaker,
entrepreneur, and philanthropist has been writing and publishing an
inspirational calendar for the last nine years. Her compassion for the victims
of the Gulf Coast tragedies has inspired her to expand this concept. In publishing this calendar,
Ms. Andrews, would allow the children who were victims of Hurricanes, Katrina
and Rita, to express themselves. Because of the impact on other children
ages 10-18 the contest was opened to any child at any school. Ms. Andrews
hosted a gala for the recipients on September 22 to celebrate their
achievements in grand style. Click here to view a photo gallery of the
gala. The event included 31 participants and their parents.
Ms.
Andrews believed that she could help in multiple ways. The images for the 2007
calendar were drawn by the children of the storm. The event allowed the children to
express their pain and suffering on paper. They were asked to draw the effects of
the hurricane on them and their city. Many times drawing is a release of pain that
cannot be expressed verbally. 12,000 dollars was raised and donated to the
children, East Baton Rouge School System, and New Orleans area schools.
There were ten thousand calendars printed. They were distributed to all
participating sponsors, local museums, churches and selected schools. The
calendar has been on display around the Gulf Coast
